About the Species
The Gemsbuck is a large antelope of striking appearance with long, spear-like horns. It has a thick, horse-like neck with a short mane and a compact, muscular body. In larger groups, you will usually find more females than males, but herds are mixed. A large proportion of males remain solitary and defend a territory. Both sexes have horns.
About the Hunt
Trophy judgment is extremely difficult, as body size differs remarkably from one Gemsbuck to another. The best indicators of a good bull is to always look at the horn itself and not so much the length at all times.
Habitat
Well adapted to the conditions of their hot, arid habitats, Gemsbuck prefers open grass veld in semi-desert areas and open dry savannah. May even penetrate open woodland in search of new grazing areas.
