About the Species

The Red Deer is not an original South African wild species. It is imported from Europe in the early colonization of South Africa. Only the males have antlers. They shed its antlers annually in the early spring. Red Deers come into the rutting season during March and April.

About the Hunt

Regarding the choice of rifle calibre, then everything from .270 to .30-06, will be excellent for the purpose.

Habitat

Red Deer is primarily a grazer, and is very adaptable to most habitats. Especially in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, there is a good population of Red Deer.
