About the Species
The Scimitar Horned Oryx is an exciting wild species, originating from its primary habitats in the deserts of Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad and Egypt. Its coat is white with a red-brown chest and black markings on the forehead and down the length of the nose. The horns are long, thin and parallel and curve backwards (like a scimitar) and can reach up to a meter and a quarter on both sexes, male and female.
About the Hunt
Scimitar Horned Oryx is a strong antelope, which should be shot with a minimum calibre of .270. The well-known .375 H&H will be a very good choice, and can be recommended for this wild species.
Habitat
The Scimitar Horned Oryx is a uniquely adaptable animal. They live primarily in open terrain, and can survive in the harshest environments such as extreme desert areas. It can survive without water for months, only living of the liquid it gains from its food.
